The companies have successfully tested a data call over a 5G Standalone network. Ericsson (NASDAQ: ERIC) has completed the transformation of UNITEL S.A.'s existing core network in Angola, implementing the Ericsson dual-mode 5G Core, IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS), and Cloud Native Infrastructure solutions.
With a download speed of over 1 gigabit per second (gbps), the technology promises to transform the experience of mobile users and dramatically improve efficiency in digitally connected industries in Angola. Africell Angola’s 5G network was activated at the FILDA trade fair in Luanda on 16 July 2022.
“Soon Unitel will join industrial partners including Huawei to incubate more 5G business applications by leveraging the digital value of 5G,” he highlighted, citing the potential to unlock vertical industries including within smart mining, ports, agriculture and airports, all areas deemed of high potential in Angola.
The 5G SA technology maximizes 5G capabilities, allowing UNITEL to offer higher speeds, lower latency, and advanced features to consumers and enterprises across multiple industries. This milestone underscores UNITEL’s commitment to next-generation 5G services, including network slicing and technology innovation.
