Charging of EVs can be a challenging issue in near future regarding increase in use of these systems and appropriate electrification systems must be designed and applied. Employment of renewable energy technologies would be a practical way to supply power of EV chargers in a clean and sustainable way.
An off-grid EV charging station is a self-contained power plant that can charge one or more electric vehicles without a permanent connection to the utility grid. Solar panels capture energy, a charger controller conditions the power, batteries store it for later use, and an inverter supplies the alternating current required by most chargers.
In a study by Bhadra et al. , design and development of a charging station feed with solar power and grid was focused. They applied an advance high gain boost converter instead of transformer for feeding the solar power with low voltage to the grid, which is used in general in other similar systems.
In a study by Khan et al. , an integrated EV charging and battery system working in the existence of unpredictable solar and wind power sources was modeled. They aimed to design an electrical control system which regulate and stabilize the voltage at the DC/DC power conversion station.
An EV charger specifically refers to a single unit which charging one vehicle at a time as shown in Fig. 2. A charging station, on the other hand, is a broader term that encompasses not only the EV charger but also the infrastructure and amenities surrounding it.
These charging facilities are among the city's latest efforts to boost green power consumption through the creation of a new energy system that is clean, low-carbon, safe and efficient.
